Think about a blog

So, you want to get more visitors to your site. You can boost your online prescence (and your bottom line) with blogs, videos, slideshows, and more. When potographers first started jumping onto the internet and setting up their own websites for business purposes, sites were usually nothing more than landing pages for customers to view a company logo, address, phone numbers and email addresses, Today, however, more and more photographers are leveraging the power of the web to put their sites to work for the.m in creative and industry-savvy ways. Servicees are available to help you upload your portfolios or create interactive slide shows for prospective customers to see, establish an online brand presence, or blog about what is going on in the photographic industry. Website services range from preset, drag-and-drop templates for those who might be intimidated by the process to customized sites for those who already have their own site and want to integrate their own aesthetics with additional powerful features. Get a computer or photo-mag and look at the ads and services advertized. If you shop around I am sure you can find a good deal. (Source: Jennifer Gidman, Studio Photography Mag, March 2009).

Working on old negatives

When I get home from a photo trek, I always review the pictures I took. With digital it is so easy to see what I have taken. I can then pick the best ones to print. In the middle of winter, I am always going through the old digital negatives trying to find something that will meet my criteria. That is the question-how particular am I to find a new "masterpiece". Ben Shahn wrote: " The moving towards one's inner self is a long pilgrimage for a painter (photographer ek) it offers many temporary successes and high points, but there is always the residuum of incomplete realization which impels him on toward the more adequate image." So I settle for a ho-hum negative and try to make it into an image I am proud of.

Some thoughts on Photography

The photograph is from The Climatron in Missouri Botanical Garden in St Louis. It stretches the boundaries of the highlights and blacks. From now on I will be using High Definition Resolution, i.e., taking a series of bracked images of the same pcture and blending the images to get one full resolution image. Barbara Bullock-Wilson the daughter of the late photographer Wynn Bullock wrote " Bullock clearly saw that in order to maximize a photograph's potential, a photographer has to be aware of his own functioning. The greater a photographer's awareness, the greater his ability to function more effectively, and the greater his photograph's potential to symbolize meaning." What does "symbolize meaning" really mean? I think it means when the photographer takes a picture, he /she has composed this picture because: first it represents a physical place and second it has an inner meaning to the photographer. Getting Back To Work

This is a straight black and white print. Only alterations were dodging and burning in photoshop. Everyone on the photo sites say it has a greenish tint. Since I am color blind to red-green, I can't really tell. It doesn't look B&W but I cant tell exactly what it is. Would someone let me know what color it really is and if you like it this way or I should upload it again. Spring is here and I am ready to get out and take pictures! I always know it is time because I always work on old images and try to make them better. I have printed these "new" images on either Moab Colorado Glossy or Epson Exhibition Fiber Based Paper. They are made with baryta clay like the old fiber based photo paper. I used to use Ilford's Gallerie Brand photo paper and air dry it. These new papers have the same finish as an air dried silver print. This is as close to a silver gelatin print I think we can get! Just one more reason to give up film though I have very many silver gelatin prints ready for sale! You can see them at f-32Studios.com and email me at ed@f-32studios.com if any questions.

What's New?

The title is: Chilluly Rose Garden. These are some of the pieced left by the artist after his beautiful show at MoBot. This is taken at 6:30 in the am, the only time if have found that both sides of the rose garden have sunlight on them. Sunday we went to GrapeArts extravaganza at Windows on Washington. It was on the 10th floor high above the city (St Louis). I was expecting the pictures to be on the city, but they turned out to be inside. The halls and restroom were a retro blend of beauty! So I cant wait to print them. So long for now
